POA Registry Partners with Custodius!

The Canadian Power of Attorney Registry is excited to announce a partnership with Custodius, Canada’s first company dedicated to storing and registering wills, offering secure storage of the original paper will.

Who is Custodius?

Custodius was designed to solve the problems of long-term will storage for Canadian lawyers. They are an all-in-one solution that allows lawyers to offer secure will storage to clients while transferring all costs, management, logistics, and liability to Custodius. Custodius employs modern security measures, gas and powder-based fire suppression, pest prevention, as well as temperature and humidity control to optimize document lifespan and give peace of mind. Even if a lawyer has retired, moved or passed, the client’s will is easily retrievable. Designed for lawyers by lawyers, Custodius integrates seamlessly with your will practice.

How did Custodius begin?

Custodius was founded by Angela Fallow, a lawyer recognized by the global Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEP), with close to two decades of experience. She experienced the challenges of providing safe long-term will storage and saw the multitude of problems executors faced when original wills were lost. She founded Custodius to address these problems and create a better solution.

Why did the POA Registry partner with Custodius?

The collaboration between the POA Registry and Custodius intends to bolster the storage and validation of substitute decision-making documents across the country. In partnering with the POA Registry, Custodius will be able to offer its customer base a way to connect substitute decision-making documents to stakeholders. With our data subset now including documents uploaded by Custodius, stakeholders can use our Registry certificate to access resources to make more timely interventions.

“We appoint a substitute decision maker because we want them to safeguard our interests at the time of need. Through this partnership, substitute decision makers can rest assured that both the physical and digital information can be accessed in a safe and predictable manner, meaning more timely interventions can be made to reduce elder abuse,” said Nathan Spaling, co-founder of the POA Registry. “Let’s start giving our substitute decision makers the tools to succeed at the time of need.”
